Brian Case is a pyrography and mixed-media artist living in South Ronaldsay, and has sold examples of his work all around the world. Pyrography, (from the Greek “Pyros” – to burn, and “Graphos” – to draw or write) is the art of burning the subject into the media. Brian uses wood exclusively, but leather, paper, bone or horn are other materials which others pyrographers frequently use.

He is entirely self-taught, having been drawing most of his life, and has been using pyrography techniques since 2011. Brian often uses a touch of colour in his pyrography art, using acrylic paint or colour pencils and pastels. He loves to draw pets and animals, ships, aircraft and vintage vehicles (and occasionally, buildings), drawing them on plywood panels and natural wood.

Brian also likes to dabble with wood-turning, drawing his art on the bowls, platters and clocks that he makes, and he is very happy to accept private commissions – prices start from £90.
